Our Ninth Annual MTU vs. GVSU Basketball event sponsored by the MTU West Michigan Chapter was held on Wednesday evening, January 3, 2007 in "The Zone" area of the GVSU Fieldhouse in Allendale, Michigan. A small gathering of West Michigan alumni met on an unusually warm January evening on the campus of Grand Valley State to witness the always intense rivalry between these two teams.
MTU vs. GVSU Basketball 2007
Following the 6:00 start of the women's game, participants enjoyed sub BBQ sandwiches, chips, cole slaw, baked beans and ice-cold soda pop furnished by Bono's Pit Bar-B-Q of Allendale. (Be sure to turn up your speakers before you click on this link...)
Between games, and between mouthfuls of chips and sandwiches, Mike Santoski gave an update on West Michigan alumni activities. The gathering concluded with the awarding of Tech memorabilia to several of the attendees, all compliments of the MTU Alumni Association.
Oh, yeah, there were a couple of basketball games played that evening, too. In the women's contest, Michigan Tech trailed by as many as 15 points in the second half before rallying for a 64-59 women’s basketball victory over the sixth-ranked Grand Valley State Lakers. Freshman Katie Wysocky made layups on three straight Tech possessions late in the game, and Alicia Schneider and Jenna Bartels iced the Huskies' win at the free throw line.
In the men's game at 8:00, MTU faced a #10 ranked team from Grand Valley. The Huskies put up a good fight in a close game that came down to the last minute of play, but came out on the short end of a 48-43 contest. Radayl Richardson was named the superior player of the game.
Thanks to all the participants for the enjoyable evening! Click here to see the original flyer from this event.
