5th Annual MTU Golf Outing
Saskatoon Golf Club, Caledonia, MI
Saturday, May 31, 2003

The 5th Annual West Michigan Alumni Association Golf Outing is in the books. It was held at Saskatoon Golf Club in Grand Rapids. This year's event had 40 participants, with 10 teams of 4 playing in a typical Keewenaw Peninsula-like spring day. While the weather was less than favorable (60's, cloudy and windy with a few light rain showers early in the day), the enthusiasm was high. Many players said they liked the weather as it reminded them of the Copper Country. The scramble format started at 8 AM with the 10 teams all finishing by 1:30 PM to enjoy the hamburgers, brats, potato salad and the other "well deserved treats" in the clubhouse.

Steph Olsson provided gifts for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams, along with the longest drives, longest putts and closest to the pins on each the red and gold nine. Sorry, we omitted to get the names of the winning teams and players winning prizes (but you know who you were). All participants received MTU pennants, stickers or pens for participating in this year's event.

Steph also provided a very nice update on the state of the hockey and football programs at the University, along with the budget challenges being faced.
